Sokoni-ke is Kenya’s premier and most efficient platform, providing parents with a unique opportunity to buy and sell preloved (gently used) school items.
Founded by concerned parents, Sokoni-ke allows parents to easily search for specific school items by title, color, size, or material at highly reduced prices. If you can’t find what you’re looking for initially, check back after a few hours; someone might have just uploaded it.
In these challenging economic times, kitting out our children in brand-new school uniforms and a stack of books at the start of every academic year can be difficult. As parents ourselves, we fully understand the importance of stretching your hard-earned money as far as possible. We believe it’s impractical to spend a fortune on brand-new school items, only for your children to outgrow them within a few months or a year.
The idea for Sokoni-ke was born from a personal experience: “I walked into one of the largest bookstores in the country two months ago to buy a book I always had on my shelf. I was dumbfounded by the price, it was triple what I had paid two years ago, despite barely touching it. I asked on one of my social media platforms if anyone had that copy, and within 10 minutes, two people had offered it to me. I realized that as parents, we can collaborate to pass on school items that are fairly new or in good condition at a fraction of the buying price. This will help save some coins, promote a culture of recycling, and encourage sharing. If you don’t want to sell, you can still donate it!”
Using second-hand items not only has a fantastic impact on your budget and strengthens the community, but it also plays an essential role in sustaining our precious environment and protecting our natural resources. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!
